11 Seleucus IV, Probably North Syrian

SCADS20 Seleucus IV

SELEUCUS IV

UNCERTAIN, PROBABLY NORTH SYRIAN, ISSUE

Royal bronze coinage

Bee/Rose

Triskeles Seleucus IV

Denomination D (12mm, 2.19gm., vertical die axis)

Obv.: Bee, dotted border.

Rev.: ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ on r., ΣΕΛΕΥΚΟΥ on l., rose, dotted border.

Reference: VAuctions (Triskeles), 17 April 2014, lot 112.

See SCADS19 (Antiochus III) for a denomination D bronze coin with a bee obverse type.

The fabric and style of the coin appear north Syrian; the absence of a beveled edge tends to preclude an eastern mint.
